DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Blank Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of a male Japanese macaque and the first birthdays of three other Japanese macaques.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1G1ngPI ) that public was invited to the birthday party at the Des Moines zoo on Saturday.

Zoo CEO Mark Vukovich says the newest macaque, also known as a snow monkey, was born May 22. Its name will be determined through a fundraising auction on June 19.

The zoo said the mother is raising the infant macaque, unlike other macaques born in recent years that had to be raised by keepers.

Saturday’s party also celebrates the first birthdays of Jubei Jo, Anika and Nikko.
