AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An eastern Georgia paralegal has been sentenced for stealing from the firm he worked for.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1KO0QYK ) 61-year-old Richard Lee Owen was sentenced Friday to nearly 20 years in prison and probation time.

Investigators have said Owen accessed the firm’s trust account for clients and cashed checks that were sent to the firm from other attorney’s offices and insurance companies between 2009 and 2012. Investigators say Owen tried concealing the theft by creating fraudulent billing documents.

The judge is reviewing the case to determine how much restitution is owed to each of Owen’s more than 50 victims.
