ROEBUCK, S.C. (AP) - Visitors to Spartanburg County can get a glimpse of history this weekend.

Re-enactors are gathering Saturday at Walnut Grove Plantation near Roebuck to recreate the gathering of patriot soldiers before the key Revolutionary War Battle of Cowpens.

Visitors can hear about soldiers in the South Carolina backcountry during the war and see firing demonstrations. There also will be military drills for kids.

The Battle of Cowpens was fought on January 17, 1781. American soldiers defeated crack British regulars in a fight that has been called the turning point of the Revolutionary War in the South.
