HAINES CITY, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has been charged with beating his wife to death.

The Lakeland Ledger (https://bit.ly/1IaUi16 ) reports that the man told police that he slammed his wife into a wall repeatedly late Thursday after learning that she had been seeing an old boyfriend.

According to police reports, the man initially told officials that his wife has been attacked during a robbery. The man also tried to make the home appear as if it had been damaged in a robbery.

The man was charged with first-degree murder and felony tampering on Friday after he confessed to investigators in a recorded interview. He is being held at the Polk County Jail.
