NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Norfolk police say one man died after helping rescue a teenager when they both fell from a jetty in the Ocean View section of the city.

Police say 20-year-old Delvin Carter and the teenager were walking on a jetty Friday evening when they both slipped into the water. Police say neither person could swim, but Carter was able to push the teenager back onto the jetty. Once the teen was on the jetty, Carter went underwater.

Another man went into the water to try to rescue Carter, but he had to be rescued by bystanders after he struggled to swim. Shortly after the man who tried to rescue Carter was taken to DePaul Hospital by authorities, Carter was found underwater by first responders and pronounced dead at the scene.
