PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Multnomah County authorities say a man who escaped from a burning pickup truck on Interstate 5 has been accused of trying to carjack another motorists’ car.

Prosecutors allege 56-year-old Burke Edwards Wardall rolled out of his truck Wednesday, ran to another car and grabbed the driver.

The driver told officers Wardall appeared delirious. A witness reported seeing him pull a multi-tool knife. Witnesses and firefighters fought him and held him until police arrived.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1QVL5OW) Wardall was treated for burns and then booked Friday on robbery, strangulation and assault charges. Calls to public defenders Saturday were not immediately returned.

Court officials said Wardall’s last address was in Redmond, Washington, and he has no criminal record.

The fire began in the cab of his truck, which carried chemicals.
