MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A Minot man who’s officiated games in the NHL for two decades is hoping to return to the ice this winter.

Thor Nelson has been out of the league for most of two seasons because of a right cross he suffered breaking up an on-ice fight in Winnipeg in 2013. That blow to the head left him with a concussion that has sidelined him since.

Nelson says after the concussion, he couldn’t break a sweat without dizziness and headaches and says for the longest time he didn’t even want to go near a rink.

The long-time official tells KXMC-TV (https://bit.ly/1SdeiHE ) he’s almost healed and that he’s started skating again to get back in shape.

He says he hopes to don his skates and sweater this winter and resume his career.
