PHOENIX (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service has delayed a plan to burn about 500 acres in Apache County over concerns about weather.

Forestry officials say the prescribed burn is set to take place next week if the weather improves. Officials say the burn is to improve wildlife habitats, watershed conditions and forest health around the area of Vernon, Arizona.

Officials say smoke from the burn might be able to be seen from Round Valley, Arizona Highway 260, U.S. Highway 60 and along forest road 61.

The burn is approved through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
