PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) - Rescue crews are searching for a woman reported missing in a river near the Victory Bridge in Perth Amboy.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York were notified around 2 a.m. Saturday that a 22-year-old woman had entered the river and was soon swept away by the current. The incident was witnessed by a friend of the woman, but their names have not been released.

A 25-foot response boat crew was dispatched from the guard’s Sandy Hook Station, as was an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from the Atlantic City Air Station.

They were being assisted in the search by New York City police divers and aviation crews, along with South Amboy and Perth Amboy police.
