SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Sarasota has been selected to host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in rowing.

The Bradenton Herald (https://bit.ly/1Qv9a4q ) reports that the city will also hold the sport’s 2017 World Championships.

The Olympic Trials are scheduled for April 18-24 in advance of the Aug. 5- Aug. 21 games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2017 championships will mark the first time in 20 years the event has been held in the U.S.

Officials say the elite rowing events will provide a big economic boost for the region and help to promote the area to rowers from around the world.
