NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former New Orleans youth minister indicted on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor has had his trial scheduled for August.

Multiple media outlets report that Criminal District Court Judge Robin Pittmanon on Friday ordered that Jonathan Bailey, 34, will stand trial Aug. 17 on 13 charges, including child molestation, sexual battery and second-degree kidnapping.

Prosecutors say surveillance video from the First Baptist New Orleans church shows Bailey entering a closet with a 14-year-old girl during a February church function.

Bailey initially was booked Feb. 23 with one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile. He was re-booked with sexual battery on March 4, after the girl told police in a second interview of more serious sexual conduct with the married church staffer.

The Orleans Parish grand jury handed up a 13-count indictment on March 23, charging Bailey with crimes including sexual battery, second-degree kidnapping, child molestation, five counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, four counts of oral sexual battery and obstruction of justice. All charges involve the same victim, authorities said.

Bailey, who has remained jailed since the indictment with bond set at $6.5 million, listened intently Friday as his attorney, public defender Sarah Chervinsky spoke at a motions hearing.

Chervinsky argued that handwritten notes about the video and suspect provided to Detective Corey Lymous by church officials fell outside the scope of an approved search warrant and should be excluded because the notes were unsigned. Prosecutor Tiffany Tucker called her argument “disingenuous,” and Bailey hung his head when the motion was denied by Criminal District Court Judge Robin Pittman.

Pittman set July 21 as the date to argue remaining pretrial motions.
