SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah climbing instructor is missing after a hiking trip to Mt. Rainier in Washington state.

National Park Service officials say 25-year-old Kyle Bufis was on the mountain with two friends Thursday evening but went missing around 9 p.m. during a period of high winds and low visibility.

NPS says the climbers were at 14,000 feet on the northern side of the mountain. The two friends safely reached camp Friday afternoon.

Rangers learned that Bufis was missing around 5 a.m. Friday. NPS rangers used a U.S. Army helicopter to look for him while dozens of people searched the mountain.

The search was suspended Friday evening and scheduled to resume Saturday.

The park service says the search is focused on the confluence of the Winthrop and Emmons glaciers.
