NEW YORK (AP) - Police say an off-duty New York state corrections officer shot and killed a man who tried to steal his motorcycle.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Rockaway Boulevard in Queens.

Police say a man approached five other men, brandished a gun and demanded the keys to their motorcycles.

According to police, an off-duty corrections officer who was one of the five fired at the gunman and struck him in the head.

The man was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. His name was not immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing.
