TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway officials say U.S. Highway 71 in southwestern Arkansas has reopened after being shut down for more than two weeks because of flooding.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says the nearly 2½ mile stretch opened to traffic at 8 a.m. Sunday. The department says the reopening came after the roadway was inspected by AHTD engineers and was cleaned by maintenance crews.

The stretch from Arkansas 108 north of Texarkana in Miller County to Arkansas 380 in Ogden in Little River County was closed May 29 because of high water and flooding of the Red River.
