BANGOR, Maine (AP) - More than 900 Vietnam veterans are expected to attend a welcome home ceremony at the Cross Center in Maine.

Officials at the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services say the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home ceremony is part of the state’s ongoing recognition of Vietnam veterans.

The state is working with the Bangor Troop Greeters and the Department of Defense to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Brigadier General Gerard Bolduc - acting adjutant general of Maine - says the ceremony allows the community to thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War. More than 900 of the estimated 44,000 Vietnam veterans living in Maine have registered to attend the event, which starts at 1 p.m. Sunday.

U.S. Senator Angus King will speak the ceremony.
