LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria is taking charge at Benfica, where Jorge Jesus quit two weeks ago and moved to crosstown rival Sporting Lisbon.

The Lisbon club says Vitoria signed a three-year contract. The 45-year-old Vitoria was previously a youth coach at the Stadium of Light and most recently was coach of Guimaraes, which finished fifth last season in the Portuguese league.

Jesus led Benfica to the Portuguese title in the last two seasons and was the storied club’s most successful coach.

Vitoria will make his debut in the Champions League next season.
