BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - The Rockingham County delegation is scheduled to meet to elect a new sheriff to replace Mike Downing, who died in April.

There are 11 candidates. The 89-member delegation is scheduled to vote Monday. In a special election, the county sheriff is not elected by the general public.

The delegation is meeting at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

Downing, who was 60, also served two terms in the state Senate and three terms in the House. He also was a state trooper and a police officer in Salem.
