SLIDELL, La. (AP) - A couple died in a crash on Interstate 10 east of the Interstate 59 junction near the Louisiana Welcome Center in St. Tammany Parish.

Louisiana State Police say the highway was partially closed Sunday while an overturned 18-wheeler was removed.

Troopers say a car, driven by 82-year-old George Wells, of Mandeville, Louisiana, was traveling in the right eastbound lane at a slow speed.

They say an 18-wheeler, operated by 36-year-old Bruno Palacios, of Richardson, Texas, was traveling behind Wells. Investigators say Palacios crashed into the rear of the car.

After the impact, both vehicles entered the center median, causing the 18-wheeler to overturn partially and block the left westbound lane.

State police say Wells and his wife, 80-year-old Jean Wells, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Palacios was not injured.
