PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in federal prison for the 2014 beating death of his mother in Kayenta.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Lakin Jim Bennett received a 236-month prison term at his sentencing Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

Bennett will be on five years of supervised release after serving his prison term and be required to enter programs for substance abuse and anger management.

Kayenta police say Bennett was arrested on March 7, 2014 after his mother was found dead outside her burning home.

Court records show Bennett had been drinking at his mother’s home and told police he beat her because she was talking too much.

Police say Bennett dragged his mother’s body to the front of the house before setting it on fire.
