SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A police officer shot and killed a dog after being bit several times in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1egoRLK ) the dog attacked the officer as he approached a home Sunday night after police had responded to a 911 call.

Police say the officer shot the dog to stop it from biting him.

According to police, the officer was hospitalized with multiple dog bites.
