PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is in custody for allegedly killing his dog after it bit his 4-year-old daughter.

Phoenix police say 32-year-old Nevaldo Alexander Ford was arrested on suspicion of one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

They say he’s also facing one felony count each of endangerment, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, assault by a vicious animal at large, and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Ford told police his daughter was swimming at their home Saturday afternoon when the pit bull bit her.

The girl was treated at a hospital for injuries to her head and face, including a puncture to her skull.

Police say the pet was shot at least twice.

They say Ford isn’t allowed to own a firearm because he’s a convicted felon.
