RICHMOND, N.Y. (AP) - Some roads remain closed, homes have been damaged and emergency crews have been called out in several western New York counties where heavy rains over the weekend caused major flooding.

The National Weather Service says a section stretching from the Buffalo area eastward to the Finger Lakes region received more than 3 inches of rain in some areas, washing out some roads and causing damage to homes in Ontario County, south of Rochester, and in Newfield in Tompkins County.

Several families had to evacuate their homes, but there are no reports of injuries.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has issued a travel advisory that asks motorists to refrain from any unnecessary travel on local roads.

The Honeoye Central School District along the Ontario-Livingston county border has called off classes Monday.
