BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say the search for two missing kayakers in the Seneca River will resume Monday, weather permitting.

The search was called off Sunday afternoon as rain began to fall and crews dealt with turbulent waters near the dam at Lock 24 of the Erie Canal in Baldwinsville.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says the men were seen fishing off kayaks near the dam at 11 a.m. Saturday. One of the kayaks bumped into the wall of the dam and capsized. The second kayaker paddled over and tried to help his companion but his kayak capsized as well.

Divers from the sheriff’s office, the Syracuse Fire Department and other agencies searched for the men Saturday and Sunday. Authorities say it appears that neither man was wearing a life jacket.
