KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Law enforcement officers in northwestern Montana say a 15-year-old boy who died after crashing a pickup truck during a police pursuit was driving a stolen vehicle.

Pierce Norman Beach of Hungry Horse died early Sunday when the pickup went off the road and hit a tree.

Columbia Falls Police Chief David Perry said officers first tried to stop the vehicle after noticing the taillight was out. During a chase that reached speeds of up to 90 mph, officers learned the 1994 pickup truck had been reported stolen in Kalispell on May 29.

As the pickup entered Hungry Horse at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, it went off the road and struck a tree.

Two passengers, ages 18 and 16, were injured. One was flown to Seattle for treatment.

This story has been corrected to indicate the stolen vehicle was a pickup truck.
