PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) - A historic covered bridge in Philippi is being closed for repairs and improvements.

The Division of Highways plans to close the bridge beginning Monday.

Damage to both the bridge’s interior and exterior will be repaired.

Division of Highways construction engineer Keith Loar tells WBOY-TV (https://bit.ly/1edOxZl ) that crews also will improve the bridge’s electrical and lighting systems, and do replacement work on the interior sprinkler system.

Completed in 1852, the span is West Virginia’s oldest covered bridge.
