BIG OTTER, W.Va. (AP) - Two West Virginia State Police troopers and a motorcyclist are recovering after a car accident in Big Otter.

Multiple news outlets report the crash happened Monday on W.Va. 16. A state police representative said the troopers thought they saw a man who had escaped from a defective holding cell at Clay County Magistrate Court last month passing by them on a motorcycle. Lloyd Rapp escaped May 13 after being arrested May 12 on misdemeanor drug charges.

When troopers caught up with Rapp, he had crashed the motorcycle in the middle of the road. The troopers’ vehicle crashed after swerving to avoid Rapp.

The troopers’ injuries are non-life threatening. Their names aren’t being released.

Rapp’s condition has also not been released.
