WHITE LAKE, N.C. (AP) - A 4-year-old child has drowned in White Lake.

Multiple news sources say authorities responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. Monday. Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw says a good Samaritan saw the boy face down in the water and pulled him to shore. Several bystanders immediately dialed 911 and began CPR on a pier inside of Camp Clearwater.

Salmon says police and the White Lake Fire Department were on scene soon after and took over CPR until Bladen County EMS arrived. The boy was taken to Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. The boy’s name has not been released.
