DENVER (AP) - The Denver District Attorney’s Office says a police officer was justified when he shot and wounded a sex assault suspect in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

In a decision letter released Tuesday, DA Mitch Morrissey says the officer was defending himself from what he thought was a reasonable threat when John Thomas Clark pointed a “silver metal object” at him.

The Denver Post reported (https://goo.gl/OefVWT ) then that Clark was wanted for failing to appear for sentencing for sexually assaulting a child. Officers who encountered him in the parking lot in northeast Denver on March 20 say he was shot in the shoulder during a struggle.

They say Clark continued to disobey their commands even after he was hit with pepper spray.
