PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An East Greenwich man has pleaded guilty to filing several false tax returns that wrongly sought millions of dollars in tax refunds from the U.S. government.

Fifty-three-year-old Anthony Delfarno pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Providence to using personal information from family members and others to file fraudulent tax returns seeking more than $3.5 million.

The U.S. attorney’s office says he filed 25 false individual tax returns and 30 false corporate income taxes and collected more than $1.4 million.

Delfarno pleaded guilty to 11 counts of wire fraud, 28 counts of theft of government property and three counts of aggravated identity theft.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 16.
