QUAIL CREEK STATE PARK, Utah (AP) - A park official in southern Utah says a man in his early 30’s drowned as he attempted to swim across Quail Creek Reservoir.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1ekwTmS) Quail Creek Park Manager Laura Melling said the man was visiting the area from out of state with family members who saw him start to struggle in the water Monday evening.

Melling says he was swimming a couple hundred yards from one dock to the other.

Family members tried but couldn’t reach the man to help. The man’s body was pulled from the water by search and rescue divers about an hour and a half later.

It’s unclear why he struggled to stay afloat.
