NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a Norfolk woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, child abuse and neglect for killing her 1-month-old daughter.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1GpoqI1) reports 22-year-old Asia Foster plead guilty Monday. She will be sentenced Sept. 4. Audree Foster died October 12, 2013 after Foster called 911 and said the child wasn’t breathing. Authorities say Foster initially told a dispatcher Yorkie and Chihuahua puppies had injured the child. Audree was taken to Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The baby’s father, a sailor, was deployed. He never met his daughter.

The child died of blunt-force trauma to the head. Authorities say she had 14 facial bruises, two skull fractures, retinal and optic nerve hemorrhages, hemorrhaging in her brain and other injuries.
