WEST VIRGINIA, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Supreme Court has named a three-judge panel to consider a petition to remove Charleston Mayor Danny Jones from office.

Media outlets report that the hearing is scheduled for Aug. 24 and 25. Circuit Judges Paul T. Farrell of Cabell County, Darrell Pratt of Wayne County and Phillip Stowers of Putnam County will sit on the panel.

The petition was filed last month in Kanawha Circuit Court by Janet Thompson, an unsuccessful candidate for mayor earlier this year. Thompson claims Jones was neglectful of his duties and wasted public funds.

Circuit Judge James Stucky found that Thompson’s petition meets the legal requirements of state law.

Jones said on Monday he doesn’t plan to hire an attorney to represent him.
