PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence officials say 30 known gang members and their associates are facing charges as a result of “Operation Zombie.”

Prosecutors and law enforcement officials announced Monday that 14 people have been indicted by a Providence County grand jury on drug trafficking charges. Eleven were indicted in federal court on heroin and cocaine trafficking charges, five were arrested on state firearms charges and two were charged with armed robbery with a firearm.

The sting was named “Operation Zombie” after police say they heard drug dealers call their clients zombies.

The charges came about as a result of the Rhode Island Urban Violent Crime Initiative, which targets gang violence and drug dealers in city neighborhoods.

Providence Police Chief Col. Hugh Clements says six of the 30 people are still at large
