CHARLOTTE, Mich. (AP) - A prosecutor says no charges are planned against an Eaton County sheriff’s sergeant who shot and killed a 17-year-old in a struggle after a traffic stop near Lansing.

Prosecutor Doug Lloyd announced a decision Tuesday in the death of Deven Guildford of Mulliken during a press conference at the courthouse in Eaton County.

Authorities say the shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 on Michigan 43 in Roxand Township, about 12 miles west of Lansing. Lloyd says the sheriff’s sergeant conducted a traffic stop and a struggle ensued, with Guildford pinning the deputy down and hitting him.

The Lansing State Journal reports ( ) that Lloyd says Guildford was shot seven times.

The sergeant was hospitalized for injuries after afterward. Lloyd reached the decision in part after reviewing body camera video.
