ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Sections of the New York state canals system remain closed because of high water levels caused by heavy rains.

Canal system officials say the Oswego Canal is closed Tuesday to all vessel traffic. A 55-mile stretch of the Erie Canal is also closed between Lock E-23 at Brewerton in northern Onondaga County and Lock E-26 at Clyde in Wayne County.

The Cayuga-Seneca Canal remains closed from Lock CS-1 in Cayuga County to the Erie Canal junction.

Officials say some sections could be closed for about a week to allow water levels to recede and to reposition navigational aids.
