DETROIT (AP) - Tax credits have been allocated for community development projects in Michigan and other states.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters of Michigan on Tuesday announced the credits through the Treasury Department’s New Markets Tax Credit Program, which seeks to spur investment in low-income communities.

Stabenow and Peters say that the tax credits help the work of the Great Lakes Capital Fund.

Last year in Michigan, the fund used tax credits to support the M-1 light rail project in Detroit as well as the HAVEN domestic violence shelter in Oakland County.
