GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two suspected suicides by jail inmates in recent days.

Officials say 22-year-old Joel Rizzo died Monday in a hospital, four days after jail guards found him hanging by the neck inside his cell.

On Saturday, guards also found 33-year-old William Bryan hanging in his cell.

The Gainesville Sun (https://bit.ly/1G96rCk ) reports that that the office has launched an internal affairs inquiry into the deaths.

Rizzo was in jail for a probation violation and was also facing charges of larceny, fraud and drug-related counts. Bryan was in jail on a sex offender violation after failing to report a change of residence.

The last suicide in the Alachua County jail was reported on Oct. 26, 2013.
