KIRKVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a pilot was hospitalized after his small plane crashed on an upstate New York golf course.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. Monday near the second hole at Poolsbrook Golf Course in Kirkville.

Manlius police say 52-year-old Mark Penell was attempting a touch-and-go landing. But the amateur-built, single-engine plane slid on wet grass during takeoff and banked sharply before crashing on the Onondaga County golf course.

The Camillus resident climbed out of the plane and was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with neck and back pain.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
