AMITE, La. (AP) - District Judge Bruce Bennett, who has served on the bench for 27 1/2 years, will retire by the end of this year.

In November 2014, he ran unopposed for another term. It was not clear late Monday how his seat will be filled.

Bennett tells The Daily Star (https://bit.ly/1FZuHrB) he has always tried to make the practice of law before him a comfortable and rewarding experience and has attempted to treat all sides fairly and with respect to give everyone a level playing field.

Bennett says he has served the people of Tangipahoa, Livingston and St. Helena parishes to the best of his ability and has attempted to carry out the responsibilities of district judge with honor, humility, professionalism and a profound sense of purpose and mission.
