CODY, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was injured when a semi tractor-trailer hit his patrol car west of Cody.

The patrol says the truck driver, 27-year-old James Friede of Billings, Montana, was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

Trooper Rodney Miears was eastbound on Monday afternoon when a commercial truck traveling in the opposition direction slowed to make a left turn into the Yellowstone Valley Inn but failed to yield to the trooper.

Miears swerved to avoid a head-on collision. The two vehicles still collided and the patrol car was forced into a ditch.

Fire and rescue crews had to extricate Miears from his vehicle. He was treated and released from West Park Hospital on Monday. He is expected to miss a few days of work.

Friede was uninjured.
