YODER, Wyo. (AP) - The town of Yoder is creating a temporary volunteer fire department after the board that oversees the Yoder Fire Protection District dismissed 10 firefighters that lived outside the district and a dozen more took leaves of absence in support of their fellow firefighters.

Mayor Norman Feagler tells the Star Herald newspaper (https://bit.ly/1HQkUZE ) in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, that the Yoder Town Council held an emergency meeting on Saturday to create the department for 60 days to provide protection to the town’s 157 citizens along with a nearby school with its 350 students and staff.

The fire district board has pulled together seven volunteers to rebuild the department.

Feagler says he hopes the town fire department is a temporary solution that will give the district and its firefighters time to reconcile their differences.
