BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the bodies of two kayakers who went missing Saturday on the Seneca River.

Onondaga County Sheriff’s Detective Jon Seeber says the bodies were found Tuesday, more than two miles downstream from the dam where the kayakers were last seen.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as 27-year-old Robert Mead of Syracuse and 25-year-old Joseph Mead of Liverpool.

The two are brothers and are presumed to have drowned. Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday morning to determine the exact cause of death.

Witnesses say one of the kayakers got caught in a hydraulic current coming off the dam at Lock 24 of the Erie Canal near Baldwinsville and was pulled underwater, and when the second kayaker tried to help, he, too, was pulled under.
