DETROIT (AP) - A 14-year-old boy has been charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault after his mother was shot in their northwest Detroit home.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office also says Wednesday that the teen will be tried as a juvenile, but could be sentenced as an adult if convicted. He also could be given a blended juvenile and adult sentence if found guilty.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Thursday at the Juvenile Detention Center in Detroit.
Police have said the 38-year-old woman was shot at least twice on June 11 during a disagreement. The gun also was pointed at the teen’s brother.
The teen was arrested the next day after officers saw him walking through a neighborhood.
