FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Witnesses say a central California man trapped in a burning bus where he lived was pounding on a window and begging for help before he died in the flames.

Authorities confirmed the account Tuesday to Fresno news station KFSN-TV (https://abc30.tv/1fhnxby ). Firefighters say they’re investigating what sparked the fire at the front of the bus that killed Feliciano Franco. They say he wasn’t able to climb out a window.

Local residents say Franco was in his 40s and homeless and that the Eastside Church of God had let him live in the bus parked next to the church building.

Fresno Deputy Fire Marshal Don MacAlpine says Franco had been talking with church members shortly before the fire.

Investigators say they’re looking at surveillance video to help determine what ignited the flames.
