DAVISON, Mich. (AP) - A school district near Flint is going to a year-round academic calendar starting with the 2016-17 school year.

The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1N1j34n ) reports board members for Davison Community Schools voted Monday to make the district the second in Genesee County to go to a year-round schedule. Beecher made the switch in 2013.

Davison students will begin school in late August and end in late June, with one-week intersession breaks coming in October, February and May.

The newspaper reports the goal of the calendar change is to shorten the length of breaks. The district plans to measure student performance, attendance and behavior to see the effects of the change.
