GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) - The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of former police chief who was killed while cutting down a tree.

WKYT-TV (https://bit.ly/1cZAUeL ) reports Philip Wise died Tuesday afternoon. Scott County Fire Battalion Chief Craig Wink says they were called out to the home just north of Georgetown around 1:30pm.

Chief Wink says it appears Wise was using a chain saw to cut down a tree when it fell on top of him.

It took four emergency responders to lift the tree off of Wise, who was unconscious at the time. He was taken to Georgetown Community Hospital where he later died.

The Sheriff’s office says Wise was a Scott County Police Department Chief in the 1980s.
