HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg City Council members spent an hour behind closed doors with the latest candidate nominated for police chief.

Council members told The Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1G2XAD8) Tuesday’s interview went well, but the council deferred voting on the nomination of Crystal Springs Police Chief Anthony L. Parker for three weeks.

The council voted 4-1 to table a confirmation vote on Parker’s appointment until July 6-7.

Parker was the fourth candidate nominated for council approval by Mayor Johnny DuPree since December. The previous three nominees were rejected by council.

DuPree, who tapped Parker as the fourth police chief nominee brought before council since December, said the delay was “disrespectful.”
