THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - The Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court has announced he will not run for re-election this year, as he plans to retire next summer.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1dJ9QkC ) Vernon Rodrigue said he will endorse Vernell Autin, chief deputy clerk of court for the last 22 years, for the Oct. 24 election. Autin has worked at the Clerk of Court’s Office since 1989.

Rodrigue’s term will end June 30, 2016. He started working at the Clerk of Court’s Office in 1960, making photocopies, recording and filing documents, and handling billing and accounting.

In 1968, Rodrigue became a deputy clerk of court, and in 1983, he was appointed chief deputy clerk of court. He became mortgage department head in 1989 and was elected clerk of court in 1991, taking office July 1, 1992.
