LANETT, Ala. (AP) - Police say a Lanett man has been arrested after shooting a woman with intent to kill.

Multiple news sources report 36-year-old Dequeaze Kenya James was charged Monday with attempted murder and obstructing justice by use of false identity. Officers say they responded to the shooting and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

Lanett Police Department Chief Angie Spates says the woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is in critical condition.

It is unclear what the motive for the crime was or if James has a lawyer.
