COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio National Guard and other agencies are participating in a major staged disaster drill on the grounds of the Ohio Fire Academy in Columbus.

The training exercise, which will take place Wednesday morning around a simulated train derailment, will test the skills of emergency responders and civil agencies, including analysis, decontamination, medical triage, and search and extraction.

The event will include training fires, small explosions and simulated gun fire.

Also participating will be National Guard members from five other states, as well as the FBI, local first responders and other agencies.

It’s part of Operation Guardian Shield ‘15, a joint, multistate exercise being conducted this week at multiple locations throughout Ohio.
